Militzer & Münch launches joint venture for automotive logistics

St. Gallen, October 28, 2024: Together with automotive logistics expert Uwe Moser, Militzer & Münch has founded the joint venture “M&M Premium Car Logistics GmbH”. The company’s core services are air, sea, and rail freight transports, as well as customs clearance and competent consulting. The aim is to offer companies and private customers comprehensive, first-class logistics services when it comes to transporting rare or unique vehicles such as prototypes, vintage automobiles and racing cars.

The joint venture starts operations on November 1, 2024. “Our target customers include major car manufacturers, but also suppliers to the automotive industry as well as small, exclusive dealers and private collectors of classic cars,” says Holger Seehusen, Managing Director, M&M Militzer & Münch Deutsche Holding GmbH. “We have therefore chosen Stuttgart Airport as the headquarters of our joint venture.” Southwest Germany is a hotspot for the automotive industry. The location at the airport also offers excellent international and regional connections.

By air, sea and land

“Our aim is to stand for reliability and quality in the market,” says automotive logistics expert Uwe Moser. “The transport of vehicles is the core competence of our ‘M&M Premium Car Logistics GmbH’ joint venture. It is designed to cover the demand for transportation services by air, sea and land. We also offer customs services for export and import.”

The target markets for these transports are the USA, China, Korea, Japan and South Africa. The vehicles might be shipped there for trade fairs, exhibitions, premieres and media events, but also for testing purposes and private use.

Militzer & Münch establishes country unit in Mongolia

St. Gallen, 1 July 2024. Logistics company Militzer & Münch keeps investing in Asia: on July 1, the new company M&M Militzer & Münch Mongolia LLC started operations.

Militzer & Münch has been active in Mongolia since 2000, but has so far managed operations from Berlin. The new country unit, a joint venture with a large, internationally operating trading company, is now taking over the local tasks independently. Thus, local customers as well as customers in cross-border traffic now have access to the full range of services offered by Militzer & Münch – road transport, air and sea freight, and project logistics. Moreover, Militzer & Münch Mongolia offers additional local services such as customs clearance and delivery. The country unit also plans to focus on opening up and developing further markets.

The new country unit is the latest in a series of strategic investments by Militzer & Münch in Asia: since 2022, Militzer & Münch has already opened its own locations in Vietnam and Indonesia. “The joint venture gives us important access to customers and business partners in Mongolia, and seamlessly integrates the country into our services,” says Nikolaus Kohler, Regional Managing Director Middle East / Central Asia at Militzer & Münch. “The acquisition fits into our strategy of growth in the most promising markets in Asia.”

Expanded portfolio

Since the democratic transition in 1990, Mongolia, one of the world’s ten most resource-rich countries, has been steadily developing from an agricultural to a commodity exporting country. Its main exports include coal, copper, gold and other mineral resources, as well as cashmere wool; most important trading partner is China.

Thomas Winter, Managing Director of M&M Militzer & Münch GmbH, Germany, emphasizes the importance of the new country unit for the Militzer & Münch network: “After almost 24 years of successfully developing business to and from Mongolia, it is time to take the next step. Our Berlin branch will continue to lead our Mongolian business and, together with M&M Militzer & Münch Mongolia LLC, will organize and further develop transports to and from Europe and within the European region. With this development step, we are further expanding our portfolio, and are able to offer our customers even better service and performance.”

Since March 2024, Militzer & Münch has been a shareholder of an international logistics service provider in Indonesia. The company began operating under the name PT. Militzer and Muench Indonesia on May 1, 2024.

“The M&M team in Indonesia is well-versed in both local and global markets with a large customer base. Since its inception in 2005, the team has consistently reported positive growth and results,” says Andreas Löwenstein, Regional Managing Director Asia / Far East at Militzer & Münch. “By integrating this team, which is firmly anchored in the dynamic Indonesian market, we expect significant positive effects for the Militzer & Münch Group.”

PT. Militzer and Muench Indonesia offers a comprehensive range of services, including airfreight and sea freight forwarding, inland transportation, warehousing, project logistics, and customs brokerage services. The team in Indonesia specialises in sectors such as healthcare, chemicals, automotive, aerospace, and time-critical shipments. A dedicated trade lane development team, with specialists for the Korean and Japanese markets, along with key account management, is in place to support our global operations.

New Leadership at Militzer & Münch in Germany

St. Gallen, 16 January 2023. The Militzer & Münch Group has completed the restructuring of its business activities in Germany. Since January 1, 2023, Holger Seehusen, Thomas Winter, and Viola Rockelmann have been heading both M&M Militzer & Münch Deutsche Holding GmbH and the two operating units, M&M air sea cargo GmbH and M&M Militzer & Münch GmbH. Thus, all Militzer & Münch units in Germany are now under the one management.

Viola Rockelmann, hitherto Finance Director of M&M Militzer & Münch Deutsche Holding GmbH, has been appointed Managing Director and forms, together with Holger Seehusen and Thomas Winter, the management team of Militzer & Münch in Germany. In addition to their previous management positions at the operational units, Holger Seehusen and Thomas Winter have been appointed to the management team of the German holding company. The distribution of responsibilities within the management team remains unchanged: Holger Seehusen focuses on air and sea freight activities, including rail transports on the China – Europe route, Thomas Winter is mainly responsible for road freight transports, and Viola Rockelmann for finance and administration.

The previous managing directors of M&M Militzer & Münch Deutsche Holding GmbH, Alexei Kovalenko, CFO of the Militzer & Münch group and spokesman of the Group Management, and TransInvest board member Ingo Seifert, are stepping down from their management positions at the German holding company. Their other functions remain unchanged.

“We wish Viola Rockelmann, Holger Seehusen and Thomas Winter all the best for their new tasks,” says Alexei Kovalenko. “Our country unit in Germany has shown very positive development over the past years; it is an important pillar of the Militzer & Münch Group. With the new management structure, we now have a leaner setup in Germany and can act more dynamically to even better meet the future challenges of the logistics sector.”

Viola Rockelmann holds a degree in business administration and has been with Militzer & Münch for 27 years. Holger Seehusen previously held management positions at IHG Logistics GmbH & Co KG and Rhenus Logistics. He has 30 years of experience in the logistics industry. Thomas Winter has been active in the logistics industry for over 25 years; among others, he was with DHL Freight and Emons Spedition GmbH.

Militzer & Münch opens branch in Shenyang

Colon Sun

St. Gallen, 13 July 2022. On July 1st, the Militzer & Münch Group took into operation the ninth M&M branch office in China. With the new office in Shenyang, the logistics company now also covers the northeast of the country.

After the opening of a branch in Chongqing at the beginning of the year, the presence in Shenyang is another milestone in Militzer & Münch’s growth strategy. With this move, the company is consolidating its network of local experts: M&M now counts 100 employees in China.

Branch manager Colon Sun will head and develop the new location. A specialist for the market in Northeast China, he has been active in the international freight forwarding industry for eleven years.

“In Colon Sun, we have won an experienced expert for our new branch office,” says Andreas Löwenstein, Militzer & Münch Regional Managing Director Asia / Far East. “We are convinced that he and his will be able to further expand our local business. With our presence in the northeast of the country, we can now also offer our customers diversified, high-quality services in that area.”

Shenyang – center of heavy industry

Nine million people live in the metropolis of Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province and one of China’s most important heavy industry centers. With its proximity to the modern port city of Dalian, its links to the country’s three northeastern provinces and to the neighboring economic zones to the south and east, Shenyang is a major transportation hub.

Militzer & Münch obtains the GDP Certification

St. Gallen, 1 March 2022. Certified quality, safety and hygiene in pharmaceutical shipping: As the first Militzer & Münch Germany locations, the Frankfurt/Air Port and Hof branch offices were certified according to the Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines for the transport of medicinal products in January 2022. Thus, from now on, Militzer & Münch guarantees customers the safe transport of pharmaceutical products by air and sea, as well as by road.

An independent audit, carried out by certification specialist SGS, confirms that the processes at the Militzer & Münch sites in Frankfurt and Hof meet the high requirements of the European Guidelines on Good Distribution Practice of medicinal products for human use. The certificate covers the safe, hygienic and undamaged delivery of temperature-controlled transports. In addition to the existing quality management system, Militzer & Münch has adapted all relevant processes in order to be able to offer its customers GDP-compliant services.

“The certification offers us completely new possibilities in product development; we are accessing new markets here and addressing an extended clientele”, Holger Seehusen and Thomas Winter, the Managing Directors of Militzer & Münch Germany, agree. “Both the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors are growth industries where we can offer shippers added value with the quality and safety of our transport processes.”

Cross-border pharmaceutical transports
The next step will now be to audit additional subcontractors in Germany for compliance with GDP guidelines. There are also plans to implement the GDP standards at other Militzer & Münch country units. Greece and Bulgaria have already introduced them; France, Poland, Turkey, and Dubai are now to follow soon. In cooperation with Militzer & Münch Germany, they will offer cross-border transports of medicinal products and medical devices.

“The auditing company did not find a single deviation from the stipulated standards at the Frankfurt and Hof sites,” says Eva Charlotte Dürr, Group Project Manager Pharmaceuticals at Militzer & Münch. “We would like to thank all those involved in the project for their excellent teamwork, and we look forward with confidence to the upcoming audits in further national units.”

Militzer & Münch China opens branch office in Chongqing

St. Gallen, 31 January 2022. The Militzer & Münch Group is reinforcing its presence in China: on January 4, the team of Militzer & Münch China took into operation a new office in the megacity of Chongqing. With its eighth branch in China so far, the logistics service provider is strengthening its network in the growing economic region in the southwest of the country.

Last year, Militzer & Münch China’s business developed well; reason enough to further expand market presence in China and to open an office in the country’s southwest. “China is of central importance for our growth in Asia”, says Andreas Löwenstein, Regional Managing Director Asia / Far East at Militzer & Münch. “The team at the new branch office will cooperate closely with our country units in Europe to strengthen our Asia-Europe traffics.”

Chongqing – the economic center of southwest China
The city of Chongqing, which is under the direct control of the government, has 32 million inhabitants in an area roughly equivalent to the national territory of Austria. The city benefits from the Chinese government’s strategy to develop the western parts of the country. This strategy aims to create a new economic growth zone west of the coastal metropolises. Within this framework, Chongqing offers great potential for further growth. The megacity is already a very important rail hub along the new Silk Road, connected to inland cities by truck, barge and aircraft. Chongqing is also the starting point of the Yuxinou-Sino Euro block train. Since its launch in 2012, more than 8,000 trains have already departed. The route runs from Chongqing via China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland to Duisburg, Germany.

Stronger presence
The new Militzer & Münch branch office is headed by Dave Li, who is himself a native of Chongqing and has more than ten years of professional experience in logistics. “The new branch will help us to improve our network and presence in Central and Western China,” says Elyar Sherkati, Managing Director of M&M’s Chinese country unit. “Our goal is to grow the local business and provide diversified and high-quality services throughout.”

New country units in the Balkans

The Militzer & Münch Group has established two new country units in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in Montenegro. With their focus on logistics services and road transports, the newly founded companies reinforce the Militzer & Münch network in the Balkan region.

In late August, the two Militzer & Münch subsidiaries in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Montenegro started operations. They are located in the capitals of the two countries – in Sarajevo and Podgorica. “Many of the customers we work with in Serbia are also active in the other markets in the region; for the most part, these customers come from the fashion and textiles, automotive and chemical sectors. Therefore, the two new country units will mainly transport goods for companies from these industries”, says Nikola Vasiljevic, Managing Director of the two country units and Executive Director at Militzer & Münch Serbia. The new companies offer the full range of the Militzer & Münch services. A special focus is on organizing FTL and LTL road transports, as well as on customs clearance.

In the Balkan region, Militzer & Münch also has units in Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania, where the group already offers comprehensive logistics services. “We founded the new country organizations at a time when other companies were rather reluctant to do so,” says Alexei Kovalenko, Chief Financial Officer TransInvest and Militzer & Münch, and Speaker of the Militzer & Münch Group Management. “This step gives good proof of the initiative, energy and entrepreneurial spirit of our colleagues at Militzer & Münch Serbia.”

Militzer & Münch opens two new subsidiaries in the Balkans

St. Gallen, 13 September 2021. The Militzer & Münch Group has opened two new country units – in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in Montenegro. With their focus on logistics services and road transports, the newly founded companies strengthen the network in the Balkan region. The Militzer & Münch country organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Montenegro started operations in late August. The companies are located in the capitals of the two countries, Sarajevo and Podgorica, and offer the full range of the Militzer & Münch services. A special focus is on organizing FTL and LTL road transports, as well as on customs clearance.

A region with potential

In both national markets, Militzer & Münch sees great potential for further growth. The national subsidiary established in 2019 in Serbia, which borders both countries, is developing better than expected. In the future, Serbia will serve as the Militzer & Münch hub for the Western Balkans. “Many customers we work with in Serbia are also active in the other markets of the region; these customers mainly come from the fashion and textiles, automotive, and chemical sectors. Therefore, the two new national companies will mainly transport goods for companies from these industries”, says Nikola Vasiljevic, Managing Director of the two new country units and Executive Director at Militzer & Münch Serbia. “We do see the opportunity to extend our cooperation with our customers to transports to neighboring countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.”

“With the new national units, we are connecting several national markets with a high growth potential, while at the same time strengthening our own network,” says Filip Simovic, Managing Director of Militzer & Münch Serbia. “Traffics destined for Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro reach their destination via the Serbian capital Belgrade, where we recently acquired a logistics property that we had previously only rented.” In the Balkan region, Militzer & Münch operates further locations in Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania, and already offers a wide range of logistics services across the region.

24/7 spare parts supply

St. Gallen, February 22, 2021. The Militzer & Münch Group offers a time-critical spare parts supply service at its location at Hamburg Airport, available around the clock, seven days a week. Especially in case of an “Aircraft on Ground” (AOG) alarm, customers make use of the service. Recently, Militzer & Münch has extended this offer to other industries that rely on time-critical spare parts deliveries – among them the maritime industry and agricultural machinery manufacturers.

The air freight office of M&M air sea cargo GmbH, which offers this service, is located in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg Airport. At present, one of the main focuses of the 26 employees is on aircraft spare parts. “Our current end customers are various regional and local airlines in China, Taiwan and India,” says Dirk Bukowski, Regional Manager North Germany. “We have now extended this service to other industries that rely on the short-term delivery of spare parts. These include the maritime industry, manufacturers of large vehicles such as combine harvesters and forklifts, as well as wind power plants and the respective workshops.” The special Militzer & Münch service can also be used for the import and export of high-value, low-volume products such as cell phones.

On duty, non-stop
The special feature of this service: Militzer & Münch assures its customers of a reliable 24/7 service, completely independent of the logistics service provider’s other workload. Shipping and warehouse stock of the Militzer & Münch branch office in Hamburg are steered via a control tower, which acts as an interface to the customers and partners.

“Our service is already attracting a lot of interest from the marine spare parts sector and from manufacturers of utility vehicles, who rely on an immediate response and the fastest possible transport in the event of an emergency,” says Jennifer Bastkowski, Branch Manager Airfreight. “Our team can access our own warehouse directly – which has not been the norm in the industry for a long time. The warehouse is connected to our office and equipped with pallet racks and an innovative warehouse management system. It is located just two kilometers from Hamburg Airport. Thanks to all these factors, we can process urgent orders within a very short time.”

Stable despite the pandemic
During the Corona pandemic, there is an above-average number of orders for spare parts that are classified as extremely urgent and have to be dispatched immediately – often outside normal working hours or on weekends and holidays. As a result of the Corona crisis, there is a much greater amount of work involved in booking orders. “In the periods leading up to the pandemic, we transported a significant portion of our air cargo as so-called “belly loads” aboard passenger aircraft that departed at a very high frequency,” says Jennifer Bastkowski. “The restrictions on passenger air traffic due to COVID-19 have ensured that this cargo space is largely eliminated – especially on the long-haul route to China.”

Thus, the rapid dispatch of time-critical spare parts constitutes a challenge, since for shipments of this type there are currently almost only cargo flights available, which, however, operate irregularly during the pandemic. COVID-19 has thus created some hurdles that make order planning more complex: Flight connections and the rates charged for them have to be checked by the Militzer & Münch team for each individual order, and coordinated with the contacts abroad. M&M air sea cargo GmbH was able to master these challenges and stand its ground in the market, despite the Corona pandemic.

New location in Austria

St. Gallen, October 1, 2020. Starting today, the Militzer & Münch Group operates a branch office in Austria. The team at the new Vienna office is active in sales and operations, with a focus on logistics services and rail transports for the markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

With the new office at the Vienna DC Tower, the Militzer & Münch Group adds to its network another important logistics hub at the heart of Europe. “Vienna is one of the major trans-shipment hubs for goods in Central Europe”, says Nikolaus Kohler, Regional Managing Director Middle East / Central Asia, Business Development Switzerland, Militzer & Münch Holding AG. “For the time being, the office is set up as a foreign branch of M&M Militzer & Münch AG, Switzerland. Plans are to found an independent country unit in Vienna at a later date.” The team at the Austrian capital comes with lots of experience and concentrates on the Militzer & Münch core markets; these include Central Asia, the Caucasus, Russia, and the Maghreb. The objective is to especially develop East-bound rail transports.

Austria boasts a stable economy, and the Vienna region has always been a successful economic hub in the trade between West and East. The new team is led by Branch Manager Nikolay Gueorguiev. He was with Far Freight / Gebrüder Weiss, and most recently with the CJ ICM Logistics Group.
